I’m writing this blog sitting in my pj’s at my mom’s house in Texas. It’s almost 9 pm, the kids are asleep (after a short battle with Jac) and the sun is still casting some light on my mom’s newly refinished pool. I LOVE SUMMER.
Last week I was able to go to southern Mississippi and help my mom clean out my Mamaw’s house. It was a sweet time with just me and mom. My Mamaw passed away a little over a year ago and I’m not sure that in the 60 something years that she lived she EVER threw anything away. We even found my mom’s hair from when she got it cut short her senior year in high school. I am so thankful for a mother in law who will keep my kids and send me pictures of them in her “patio pool”. I LOVE SUMMER.
I love summer because flip flops are an ok dress shoe.
I love summer because ice cream counts as a meal.
I love summer because you can cook slabs of meat on an open fire in your back yard.
I love summer because my kids play hard and thus sleep hard.
I love the smell of sunscreen on my babies.
I love the taste of fresh tomatoes out of my uncle Bill’s garden.
I love the feel of the sun on my pasty white skin.
I love the sound of lawn mowers and sprinklers.
And I love the sight of my family all together, all outside.
Summer is fantastic. And I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed it as much as I have this year. (I need to remind myself of these things when it’s 105 degrees for the 30th day in a row!)
